Just before dawn last Friday, Super Typhoon Haiyan roared onshore with wind gusts up to 235 mph, waves up to 45 feet in some areas, and nearly 16 inches of rainfall. The death toll is mounting. It is currently estimated that this storm, the most powerful cyclone of the past three decades, has killed nearly 10,000 people.
Please continue to pray for those who have lost loved ones, for those who are injured, and for those who have been displaced by this terrible storm. Please also pray for LWR’s staff who are responding and serving those in need.
LWR has more than 25 years of experience in the Philippines, and we have mobilized our staff and resources on the ground to provide life-saving support. Our staff in the Philippines are well equipped to respond to disasters like this. They are currently leading an assessment team through Northern Cebu and Western Leyte. Here’s how we’re responding:
Shelter:
LWR will provide shelter repair kits to families.
Cash programs:
LWR will employ thousands of people in three municipalities of Northern Cebu in short-term work assignments removing debris from public spaces, helping to get cash into the hands of those who need it.

Quilts and Kits:
LWR is shipping Personal Care Kits, Baby Care Kits, School Kits and Quilts, which will be distributed to more than 26,000 families.

Please give generously today. For this immediate response, we are seeking $2.5 million in support. Your support will help provide urgently needed care and aid to surviving children, women and men.
